  1. Notable technologists from Zimbabwe throughout history:
  • William Kamkwamba: A self-taught inventor and author who built a windmill from scrap materials to provide electricity for his family’s home in rural Malawi. His story was featured in the book and movie “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.” He is now a TED Fellow and advocate for sustainable technology.
  • Simba Mubvuma: A software engineer who worked for Google and co-founded the startup Freshly Ground Investments. He is also a mentor for ZimboPy and an advocate for diversity in tech.
  • Tapiwa Chiwewe: A computer scientist and researcher who uses machine learning and computer vision to solve social problems in Africa. He has worked for IBM Research Africa and founded the startup Esaja.com.
